    A continued commitment to advancing the profession of nursing and patient quality care outcomes through application of evidence-based practice.

  • Why did you start teaching?

    I became a teacher because it was instilled in me in undergraduate school that learning was for life. Being a university faculty member allows me to continue to learn and cultivate the love of learning in others.

  • Why are you interested in education? What drew you to this field?

    The opportunity to teach, shape nursing professionals' futures; and, in turn, health care is a privilege and passion of mine.

  • What qualities make someone particularly successful in your field?

    The qualities for success in advanced nursing include mostly grit, diligence, and ambition; however, professionalism, problem solver, good clinical judgement, evidence-based practitioner, caring, patient advocate, effective communicator and listener, collaborator, and the ability to lead are also critical.

  • What do you think is the biggest challenge that professionals in your field face today?

    Nursing continues to be faced with the growing demands of health care, the rapid pace of health care changes, and most recently the pandemic health care crisis.

  • What advice would you give to those considering a USM online education program?

    You will do well in USM's online programs if you are a self-starter, disciplined to cultivate good study habits, motivated to learn, able to share your knowledge and experience with others, and engaged in the subject matter. Faculty and staff at USM support and nurture all these successful learner attributes.

    "The Power of Habit: Why We Do What We Do in Life and Business" by Charles Duhigg

  • Tell us something your students may not know about you.

    During my first year in college, I was enrolled in an education major and then graduated four years later with a BSN awarded via a partnership through USM and UUMF. I absolutely love teaching online, am dedicated and committed to my teaching and students, and earned an Advanced Online Teaching Certificate through the Online Learning Consortium.
